Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a game I play on and off. The idea of the game is very simple: you pick up cargo and drive it to its destination. Even though the concept is basic, it is done extremely well. The trucks look great and handle very nicely, which makes driving long distances surprisingly relaxing.
The game becomes even better with mods. Mods can add real companies, real cars on the road, improved sounds, and better AI traffic. These additions make the game feel much more realistic. The developers support mods through the Steam Workshop and the in-game mod manager, which makes them easy to install and use.
There are also many official DLCs available. These range from paint jobs to new trailers, trucks, and map expansions. However, these DLCs can become quite expensive, which is why many players use the amazing mods created by the community.
Recently, instead of focusing on achievements (which can take a lot of time) I enjoyed simply customizing a truck that I liked. With things like open pipe sound mods and improved interior mods, driving becomes even more fun.
In my opinion, playing with mods is almost a must for this game. Mods that improve lighting, weather, and sound can greatly increase the feeling of immersion and make the experience even better.
The multiplayer mode is also enjoyable. I have mostly played it with one friend, where we simply drove routes together and enjoyed the journey. I personally like this much more than the chaos you sometimes find in public multiplayer lobbies.
Overall, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a relaxing and enjoyable simulation game. Its simple idea works very well, and with the help of mods it can become a very immersive trucking experience.
