Roboquest is a must-play for anyone who enjoys fast-paced roguelite games. From the moment you start a run, the game throws you into quick and intense combat that keeps you moving almost all the time. The gameplay feels very smooth and responsive, and the speed of the action makes every run exciting.
Movement is one of the highlights of the game. Jumping, sliding, and dashing through levels feels great. If you manage to get the timing right on your jumps and movement, the game can feel a bit like DOOM, where you are constantly flying through arenas while fighting enemies.
There is also a lot of content to chase. The game has many achievements, collectibles, and secrets to find, which gives players plenty of reasons to keep playing. There are even some fun little easter eggs. For example, during loading screens there is a small van you can interact with, and if you press space it jumps. Small details like this show the playful side of the developers.
Weapons are another strong part of Roboquest. There are many different guns to find during a run, and each one feels unique. On top of that, you can create different builds depending on the upgrades and items you find. This makes every run feel a little different and encourages players to experiment with new combinations.
The game is challenging, but in a good way. Some fights can be punishing, especially if you make mistakes, but overcoming those difficult moments feels very rewarding. Finishing a strong run after a tough fight is always satisfying.
Visually, the game uses a comic book style that fits the fast action very well. The bright colors and bold designs help the enemies and environments stand out clearly, even during chaotic battles. The soundtrack is also excellent and does a great job of keeping you focused and in the zone while playing.
Each run usually lasts somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour, which feels like the perfect length. It allows you to jump in for a quick run without needing to spend an entire evening playing.
One small downside is the number of classes. While the classes that exist are all fun and viable depending on your play style, the overall number feels a bit limited. Another disappointment is that the developers are no longer updating the game, which means new content will likely be rare in the future.
Even with that drawback, Roboquest is still an excellent roguelite shooter. The fast gameplay, satisfying builds, fun secrets, and great music make it clear that the developers are gamers themselves who understand what makes this genre fun.
