When I got my Steamdeck I knew I had hundreds of games ready to be played, which made it a lot harder to pick the right game to start the Steamdeck adventure with. I was looking for something I could just play for a couple of minutes, make some progression and then call it a day. I use my Steamdeck mainly before bed or when I wake up in the weekends, so I didn't wanna play a game for hours on end, but also needed it to have a special feeling so I wouldn't get up and get behind the PC.
So I looked at the Steam page for Lara Croft GO and liked what I saw: a turn-based puzzle game. I think especially this combination works great for me on the Steamdeck.
Lara Croft GO is set in a long-forgotten world. Explore the ruins of an ancient civilization, which perfectly captures the spirit of Tomb Raider. The game starts off with some fairly easy introductory puzzles, but quickly ramps up the difficulty, the levels become actual puzzles instead of just straight forward levels.
The level always starts in the same state, this gives opportunity to try some moves and see what advances you to a next breakpoints. This keeps trial and error to a minimum. During the game Lara faces a couple different enemies on her way to the end from Komodo Dragon-sized lizards that chase you to snakes to giant spiders. You'll learn how to use these enemies to your advantage and find some clever mechanics to solve the puzzles.
Overall I enjoyed the game for what it was! Note that this review was only from playing it on Steamdeck where I had no issues. PC and controller support is not taken into account
