Before the Steam port in 2016, LostWinds began as a quiet experiment for gesture controls. Released as the Original Wii 2008 version, it was a Launch title for WiiWare, designed to showcase how the Wii Remote could turn simple gestures into living wind.
Players guided Toku and the spirit Enril across floating islands, solving puzzles by shaping currents of air rather than wielding weapons. The game’s art style and gentle pacing earned a devoted following. With the Steam remake 2016, the adventure was reintroduced to modern audiences, preserving its origins while refining visuals and controls for a new generation.
LostWinds is a small, charming platformer that has aged surprisingly well. Originally built around Wii Remote motion controls, the transition from the Wii gestures back then to the mouse controls on POC work well and feels intuitive. Making puzzles and traversal feel natural rather than gimmicky.
The plot is quite fun, but exactly what you'd expect: an ancient evil, a chosen child, and a benevolent wind spirit restoring balance. It’s light and colorful. Overall the game is fairly easy, the puzzles are straightforward and the combat is very forgiving. Even younger or less experienced players shouldn’t struggle much.
Because of that, it’s one of those games you’d play now to get a quick 100% achievements. Achievements are not missable bar one, so completionists can relax and simply enjoy the ride. If you finish wanting more, the sequel, LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias, is also available on Steam
