Destiny 2’s journey has been one of epic highs and sobering lows. For me, the absolute highlight were the Day 1 raids like Vow of the Disciple and Root of Nightmares they were the perfect blends of challenging mechanics, tight teamwork, and fun memories. Those first raid experiences defined what Destiny felt like at its best: fresh and mysterious..
As it’s evolved over the years, the game still delivers solid core gameplay. It's still has good looter‑shooter combat and satisfying gunplay. The Trials of Osiris, has its moments and casual runs can still be fun for players looking for competitive matches, but it hasn’t maintained the broad appeal it once had. It used to be sweaty to try and get those flawless cards, but it seems that they give the loot away for free currently. Trials’ player engagement has dipped substantially compared to its peaks, with participation numbers falling to some of their lowest levels in years, I'm not even sure about its future relevance.
That decline ties into a broader trend: player numbers across Destiny 2 have shrunk from their heyday. It's just sad seeing this game struggling to get above 12k players on peak times in the weekend.
The developers at Bungie continue to lean into updates and quality‑of‑life improvements, but delays... including pushing a major mid‑year expansion out by several months, have tested community patience and raised questions about momentum going forward.
This game brought me the absolute greatest times, I've met amazing friends along the way and I don't regret any second played. I genuinely hope that they can crawl back from this and actually get the ball rolling again with some good updates. Only time will tell.
I inserted a video above about all our encounters from our first day 1 raid race. This is without a doubt the most fun I've had in games. The evening started at 7pm and we would spend some hours in the first encounter. During this encounter we noticed server issues which we were not greatly impacted by, but Bungie posted that the race got extended by 24h, so now we got a really good opportunity to finish the raid. We would spend hours and hours on the second encounter (Caretaker) and by 9am we killed it. We would spend another 5 hours or so on the third encounter, a timed encounter with coordination mechanics and chaos (perfect as a third encounter after hours and hours of focussing). We did sleep some hours in between and we would give up at the last encounter, only to hop back on in the morning and actually succeeding anyways.
Our team ended up placing 6,330 / 6829. With over 500.000 people trying and being in the only about 32.000 succeeding teams I'd say we did well.
